Hyatt boasts one of the most generous loyalty programs in World of Hyatt. Every year travelers rave about the personalization and benefits they receive, especially if they are Globalist status.

While Hyatt doesn’t have the largest property portfolio, especially compared to Hilton and Marriott Bonvoy, they do treat their travelers well and that keeps people coming back.

Hyatt has many different properties under their umbrella, from the ultra luxury Park Hyatt to the more modest Hyatt Regency.

Hyatt Discoverist and above are offered room upgrades with Hyatt Globalist members becoming eligible for select suites, available at the time of checking in for the duration of their stay.

Have you ever wondered how often this happens? In our experience it can vary greatly and also how you ask for an upgrade will have a huge impact.

Hyatt Elite Tiers

As a reminder, Hyatt has 5 elite tiers with Explorist being the most common breakthrough tier that starts to get you the room upgrades. Often time tiers such as Discoverist can be offered complementary with premium travel credit cards and a faster path to Globalist.

Hyatt Status Tiers

The eligibility for room upgrades vary greatly with Explorist being the first real tier to start receiving quality benefits.

Hyatt Tiers for Upgrades

Of course the higher tier you are on Hyatt the more likely you are to get upgraded. If you are traveling to a business city and a prime hotel they will most likely have many elite memberships checking in on any given night, making upgrades awarded in priority order.

How Members Can Get Upgrades

Hyatt has an official policy on upgrades and maintain the following statement regarding offering a better room.

We’ll do our best to upgrade your room based on availability at check-in. Upgrades are subject to availability identified by each hotel and limited to your personal guest room.

The good news is upgrades to rooms is available to all members Explorist and above. The downside is it is totally up to the hotel’s discretion on whether to offer an upgrade.

Here are the official ways you can be upgraded at a Hyatt property.

Complimentary Upgrades

Complimentary upgrades are entirely at a hotels discretion and a lot of factors play into whether they grant it or not. This includes but not limited to your status level, hotel capacity, and how many higher tier members are checking in. In fact some hotels also consider their house keeping capacity since a larger room will require more cleaning time upon check out.

A complimentary upgrade is what most people bank on when traveling to a property to keep their upgrade certificates and points save for a future trip.

Here are some tips to consider to give you the best chance at getting an upgrade upon check in.

 • Check the hotel capacity about a day or so from arrival to determine if higher rooms are available. This will help you understand if the hotel is full or if there are even rooms available to be upgraded into.
 • Do not use the mobile check in feature on Hyatt App. In our experience once you check in this will assign you a room in the hotels system making it much more difficult to change your room upon checkin.
 • Consider asking the hotel in advance via the Hyatt App chat feature and remember to be nice. Mention you noticed the space available and would like to be considered for an upgrade.
 • Don’t forget to ask politely upon check in. Consider asking your check in agent if there is any chance for an upgrade and they will surely check the system.
 • The last tip and by far the most important, be nice! Many times an upgrade is at the discretion of the check in agent and being nice goes a long way.

Lastly, consider the number of days you are planning to stay at a particular hotel. If it is a short stay you are much more likely to get an upgrade so you are not occupying a better room for a long period of time.

Suite Upgrade Certificates

An upgrade certificate is a one-night confirmable upgrade to a standard suite or select premium room, depending on the hotel’s availability of those rooms.

Hyatt First Suite Upgrade Award

As for suite upgrade certificates, you earn two certificates after staying 40 elite-qualifying nights or earning 65,000 base points and another two certificates after staying 60 nights or earning 100,000 base points. This is typically the point where you would qualify for Globalist status, but Hyatt offers additional incentives for surpassing this threshold. You can select either an additional suite upgrade award or 10,000 bonus points for every 10 additional nights, up to 100 nights per calendar year.

These upgrades can only book you into a regular club-level room or standard suite, as designated by the property. So, you can’t use a suite upgrade award to snag a specialty suite.

Unlike Marriott Bonvoy, Hyatt makes it much easier and actually confirms your suite night well in advance.

You will have to call so do a search in advance to confirm availability. Once you have confirmed availability and determined your preferred room type, contact Hyatt’s customer service at 800-544-9288

Points Upgrade

You can also use your Hyatt points to upgrade a paid or award stay rather than paying cash. Here is the standard chart for upgrades:

Hyatt Points Upgrade Chart

These are note often easy to come by but you will want to look for “Lp Suite Pts Upgr” rate to determine how much it will cost to upgrade into a standard suite using points. Look for the “Upgrade Premium Suite” rate if you want to upgrade to a premium suite using points.

Hyatt Lp Suite Pts Upgr

In our experience we haven’t seen this offered much in advance and will usually be at the time of check in.

Summary & Takeaways

So exactly how often do Hyatt Elite Members get upgraded? Frankly, it depends. But if you follow the steps above you can increase your chance of scoring a complimentary upgrade on your next visit.

If you have found a strategy that works feel free to share with us in the comments and we will add it to the list.

To find the travel agent rate at Hyatt, you can search any property on Hyatt’s website and locate the “Standard Rate” as well as input code HY and you will see how much a night will cost you.

Hyatt Search HY

You can then confirm with your agent and expect to be quoted the same price.

So why would you book with the agent if you pay the same rate? As mentioned in the section above, while you pay the same rate there are a number of additional benefits a travel agent can unlock for you at Hyatt hotels.

Hyatt Rates Just For Travel Agents

When it comes to a travel agent’s personal stays, Hyatt offer some of the best perks available.

Park Hyatt Paris Rate for Travel Agents

You’ll see the travel agent discount is significantly lower than the member rate.

Most popular hotels offer these travel agent rates hoping that if a travel agent likes the property, they would send a lot more customers their way.

Hyatt Status, especially Explorist and above, qualify for room upgrades, welcome gifts, and other specialities at certain properties.

If you are booking with a travel agent then you should still add your Hyatt number to each reservation to still obtain the perks you have qualified for.

Obtaining Elite Nights and Points

Another major benefit to booking a Hyatt with a travel agent is you will still receive qualifying nights, points, and spend towards Status.

This provides another reason as to why you should be using an agent, since there is no compromise for you as a traveler, even if you are chasing status.

How To Book With A Travel Agent

How to actually book is a pretty simple process and the travel agent will typically handle everything for you.

Need a travel agent? Submit a booking request with Travel Season and we will pair you with a certified concierge

Once you have located a travel agent you will simply provide them your trip date, details, budget, and anything else you may want them to know about your upcoming travels. If you already have a hotel picked out then great but a travel agent can also help guide you to one that works best for you.

Most of the communication will be done over email / call but generally we found the process to move pretty quickly.

The travel agent will also take some time to learn your preferences – do you like sweet or savory snacks? do you like booking activities or enjoy relaxing?

All of this will be covered in your profile and from there you will have a confirmed booking in no time.

Don’t have a travel agent or don’t know where to start? Let us help! You can submit a travel request via Travel Season and we will pair you with a certified travel agent.

A Guide To Hyatt Corporate Codes and Discounts https://travelseason.com/hotels/hyatt-corporate-codes/ https://travelseason.com/hotels/hyatt-corporate-codes/#comments Tue, 09 Jun 2020 02:39:00 +0000 https://lazycpm.com/?p=4011 Learn how to find and use corporate discount codes across global Hyatt hotels and resorts.

The post A Guide To Hyatt Corporate Codes and Discounts appeared first on Travel Season.

]]>
Hyatt is a widely used hotel loyalty program for business travelers, making corporate discounts a big part of their offering.

If you happen to be associated with any of the partner organizations you should definitely plan on taking advantage of one of these perks. The discount will include a percentage off the nightly rate and will typically include free wireless internet and breakfast.

Depending on where and when you travel there won’t always be availability. It’s worth a check to any city you are traveling to.

Rates are for business travelers only so make sure you are associated and authorized to book with the below rates.

Use the steps below to see if you can receive a Hyatt discount on your next booking.

Locate your corporate rate

If you work for a major corporation there is a high chance you book your hotels through a company portal or have a travel agent secure all reservations. With the corporate rate inserted on the backend a lot of times you may not even be aware of what your own companies code is.

At the request of our partners, we have removed corporate codes from this page. If your company has an eligible corporate rate you can still follow our guide on how to use them with various hotel partners.

Many companies have multiple rates with Hyatt so make sure you try all the ones assigned to your given organization.

Input discount code into Hyatt search

Hyatt makes it straightforward to search using a corporate discount on their website. Simply navigate to the search bar and expand the column titled “Special Rates”. You will see a dedicated section titled “Corporate Account” and here is where you will want to enter your code.

hyatt discount code search

As soon as you enter your rate and click “Find Hotels” all the results will be eligible for that rate.

Compare corporate vs. standard rates

As mentioned above corporate rates are considered “Special/Preferred Rates” and while they do usually provide discounts, they are actually not always the cheapest. There are a lot of reasons to why, but hotels may be running their own special deal making the standard rate lower than the corporate rate for a given night.

hyatt compare rates

In this example, the corporate rate is 15% cheaper per night than the hotel’s direct “Best Available Rate”. We always recommend comparing your corporate rate to other promotions the hotel may be running directly.

Present identification upon arrival

This part can may not always happen but according to the companies official policy, a hotel must check ID to confirm your rate upon check in. Given how most Hyatt are operated independently, we found this to vary wildly based on location.

Acceptable forms of identification include

 • A badge with the company name and your picture
 • A business card that includes your name, title, and company
 • A business email address the hotel will confirm by sending you an email

What Locations Offer Corporate Discounts

An important thing to note is that not all corporate discounts are made the same across Hyatt. Each hotel is typically required to negotiate a corporate rate with each company making the amount you get discounted vary by location and hotel popularity.

In our experience cities that attract more business travelers will often have the most discounted hotels available.

Companies That Get The Best Rates

Not all discounts are created equally and naturally some companies have negotiated better rates than others. The rate you receive is based on the amount of stays a company provides to a certain hotel leading to a better discounted rate.

Typically companies that travel the most such as DeloitteIBMAccenture, and At&t will get the best rates as well as have the most available hotels. If you are affiliated with any of these companies then you can expect the best rates at various properties around the world.

How To Negotiate A Corporate Rate At Hyatt Hotels

If your company does not currently have a corporate rate with Hyatt you can negotiate one. Note you will need to negotiate with each Hyatt hotel individually instead of Hyatt as a whole so choose your locations and properties carefully.

The process is a bit informal but starts by sending an email to the corporate-programs office or directly to a hotel manager if you are a frequent visitor. The process for joining may vary by hotel but generally involves filling out an application indicating number of employees, expected stays, and additional details. Once agreed you will obtain a code that will enable you to see discounted rates on Hyatt website and app when booking.
