A Guide To Marriott Corporate Codes and Discounts

Marriott Bonvoy is the most popular hotel loyalty program for travelers.

The company boasts 30 different hotel brands and over 7,000 properties in its portfolio making it one of the largest worldwide. Marriott Bonvoy loyalty comes with a number of benefits for frequent travelers especially those that can reach the highest tier of status.

It’s no surprise that Marriott attracts a large number of business travelers. Employees from consultancies, banks, and even universities rack up thousands of nights each year at properties around the world. It’s no wonder these companies have negotiated a special discounted rate just for their employees.

If you happen to be associated with one of these organizations you can take advantage of these perks. The discount can be sometimes as much as 30% off the regular nightly rate and will typically include free wireless internet and breakfast.

Depending on where and when you are traveling the availability will vary. Also just because you find a corporate rate doesn’t always mean its the lowest rate the hotel has to offer. Be alert to compare the rate you find to the regular nightly price since there are times a corporate rate can be higher.

If you are a business travel then here is how you can book a corporate rate at Marriott properties.

Locate your corporate rate

If you work for a major corporation there is a high chance you book your hotels through a company portal or a travel agent. This means your corporate rate is inserted on the backend and you may not even be aware of what your own companies code is.

At the request of our partners, we have removed corporate codes from this page. If your company has an eligible corporate rate you can still follow our guide on how to use them with various hotel partners.

Many companies have multiple rates with Marriott so make sure you try all the ones assigned to your given organization.

How To Use Marriott Corporate Codes

Marriott makes it straightforward to search using a corporate discount on their website and mobile app. When you navigate to the Homepage you’ll see a selection on the search bar for the rate you would like to select. Simply navigate to the search bar and expand the column that indicates your rate..

Once you click this a selection of special rates appears with Corp/Promo Code as an available input.

Input it into Marriott search

You will now see a dedicated section titled “Corporate / Promo / SET#” and here is where you will want to enter your code. Make sure to input the code exactly as it appears for it to show you the correct rates.

As soon as you enter your rate and click “Find Hotels” all the results will be eligible for that rate.

Corporate Codes In Search Results

Upon searching with a Corporate Rate Marriott will show you the lowest price for your corporate rate on the results page. Note, you will also notice a few hotels that have “Rate Unavailable”. This means that you the corporate discount for your given dates are not currently available however the hotel does have a rate for your company on other dates.

If a hotel does not accept the corporate rate you have then it simply will not appear in the results at all.

Compare rates

As mentioned above corporate rates are considered “Special Rates” and are actually not always the cheapest. There are a lot of reasons to why but hotels may be running their own special making the standard rate lower than the corporate rate for a given night.

If you are comfortable prepaying make sure you check the tab furthest to the right. Often times this is the cheapest rate for any hotel room since you are securing the revenue for the hotel.

See All Rate Details

Another important aspect of corporate rates is to see everything that is offered through them. To do this you simply select “Rate Details” for a given room and it will show you everything you need to know.

Some of the most common perks of Corporate Rates are free wifi and flexible cancellation. You will typically have up until the day of arrival or 1 day before to make any changes.

Make sure to read all rate details before booking as they vary from hotel to hotel.

Present identification upon arrival

Most importantly, in order to be eligible for a Corporate Rate you must show proof via Identification upon arrival. This part can may not always happen but according to Marriotts official policy a hotel must check ID to confirm your rate upon check in.

Given how most Marriotts are franchised owned we found this to vary wildly based on location.

Acceptable forms of identification include

  • A badge or pass with the company name and picture
  • A business card that includes your name and company
  • An email address the hotel will confirm by sending you a confirmation

What Is Included With A Corporate Rate?

A corporate rate is not always just a discount in room price, they often come with additional perks. In our experience the most common additional benefits include free wifi, breakfast, and at times more flexible checkout.

Another major benefit in booking with a corporate rate is the ability to cancel up until the last minute. Marriott typically offers the ability to cancel any corporate rate booking until a few hours before checkin. This is a huge benefit as often plans change and allows you to make bookings without having travel plans fully confirmed.

Each property varies in what they offer business travelers so make sure you read the details before booking.

Will Corporate Rates Still Receive Stays & Points?

Yes, Marriott will still credit your account for the nights stayed as well as the respective points you earn on the amount paid.

Will Corporate Rates Still Receive Marriott Status Benefits?

Yes, if you are checking in under a corporate rate you will still receive all the benefits of your Marriott Status. This includes room upgrades, free breakfast, late checkout, and all the other perks you are offered as a Marriott Elite.

Who Is Eligible To Use Corporate Rates?

This will vary by company but it’s not uncommon for full time employees, contract workers, consultants, or those affiliate with an organization to use a corporate rate. If you work for an organization on the list but are not aware if you are eligible seek out advice internally.

Often times if you are affiliated with an organization to obtain identification associating yourself with it that is usually enough for a hotel group to consider you eligible.

Marriott corporate discounts should also only be used when traveling for business. If you are planning leisure travel you may not be eligible to book on a corporate rate. It’s also no surprise that many hotels in vacation heavy destinations do not offer corporate discounts.

Note for booking you must be associated with the organization and authorized to do redeem the rate. Use the steps to see if you can receive a Marriott discount on your next booking.

Additional Discounts With AAA, CAA, and Senior discounts

Marriott also has plenty of discounts for non corporate travelers especially AAA and CAA members as well as Senior discounts.

Typically CAA and AAA members get a discount of 5% off the lowest room base rate. The senior discount rate is 15% off the base rate if you are 62 or older.

Marriott Codes For Employees, Family, and Friends

Marriott has an Explore program that gives a special discounted rate to employees, family, and friends to use when vacationing at Marriott properties around the world. The discount level has two tiers, an employee rate and friends and family rate, that differ greatly in discounts and availability. The codes are as follows:

  • Marriott Explore Rate (Code: MMP)
  • Marriott Explore Friends Rate (Code: MMF)

To learn more about rate eligibility, discounts, and how to use it see our Guide To Marriott Bonvoy Explore Employee Rate.

Marriott Benefits For Travel Agents

Don’t belong to a corporation that has a discount? No problem. You can still receive additional perks at Marriott hotels when you book via a travel agent.

Specifically for travel advisors Marriott has two programs, known as Marriott STARS and Marriott Luminous, which offer additional perks for stays at various Marriott-family properties.

Hotels that qualify for Marriott STARS include: EDITION, BVLGARI, Luxury Collection, Ritz-Carlton, Ritz-Carlton Reserve, and St. Regis. The benefits that are offered at these hotels include:

  • Complimentary full or continental breakfast daily for up to two people per room
  • Hotel credit valued at 100 USD once per stay
  • Room upgrade, subject to availability at check-in
  • Complimentary basic Wi-Fi daily
  • In-person welcome
  • Personalized welcome amenity and note

Hotels that qualify for Marriott Luminous include: Autograph Collection, JW Marriott, Le Meridien, Marriott, Renaissance, Tribute Portfolio, W Hotels, and Westin. The benefits that are offered at these hotels include:

  • Complimentary daily breakfast for two people per room
  • Complimentary basic Wi-Fi daily
  • Early check-in & late check-out, subject to availability
  • Complimentary room upgrade, subject to availability at check-in
  • Local welcome amenity and note
  • Hotel credit valued at 100USD once per stay, but only at select hotels

You may notice many of these perks are similar to those of the Marriott Bonvoy program but it is a great way to get the benefits if you do not have status.

What Locations Offer Corporate Discounts

An important thing to note is that not all corporate discounts are made the same across Marriott. Each hotel is typically required to negotiate a corporate rate with each company making the amount you get discounted vary by location and hotel popularity.

Whether you are traveling to New York City, Rome, or any city for that matter, make sure you check the latest rates at the time of booking.

In our experience cities that attract more business travelers will often have the most discounted hotels available.

Companies That Get The Best Rates

Not all discounts are created equally and naturally some companies have negotiated better rates than others. The rate you receive is based on the amount of stays a company provides to a certain hotel leading to a better discounted rate.

Typically companies that travel the most such as DeloitteIBMAccenture, and At&t will get the best rates as well as have the most available hotels. If you are affiliated with any of these companies then you can expect the best rates at various properties around the world.

How To Negotiate A Corporate Rate At Marriott Hotels

If your company does not currently have a corporate rate with Marriott you can negotiate one. Note you will need to negotiate with each Marriott hotel individually instead of Marriott as a whole so choose your locations and properties carefully.

The process is a bit informal but starts by sending an email to the corporate-programs office or directly to a hotel manager if you are a frequent visitor. The process for joining may vary by hotel but generally involves filling out an application indicating number of employees, expected stays, and additional details. Once agreed you will obtain a code that will enable you to see discounted rates on Marriott website and app when booking.

Hotel Corporate Programs

Looking to stay with another hotel program? Most have corporate programs and you can find guides to them here:

Note many companies have rates across multiple hotel groups so it’s best to find the hotel that serves your travel purpose the best.
